AFropolitan

A few of among you, my die-hard crew are aware that for the last year-and-a-half I've been in the studio w/ the band working on a new record and I'm happy to say that the durn thing is almost done!  We're putting the final touches on most of the mixes & will be mastering the album later this summer for our impending Fall release.

The album is called "AFropolitan" and it makes a musical & lyrical statement about an identity that not only applies to me and my bandmates, but to many of our friends, fans & peers around the world.  It's an identity that transcends traditional boundaries of culture, ethnicity, race & nationality.  If you've never heard the term before you can get an insight into what it means by reading this powerful essay written by my friend taiye selasi - a Ghanaian-Nigerian-American literary genius who you will be hearing much more of in the not-too-distant future.

I'll be writing more about what the concept and music of "AFropolitan" means to me as we get closer to the release.  In the meantime, in the music player to the right of this post, you will find a free download of the preview version of the title track.  Listen to it, share it w/ friends & let me know how you define your identity.

This is dedicated to all my natives...
